| Sonny is the only brindle Labrador I ever
produced. In fact Sonny is the only Labrador with a coat defect I ever
produced. Some people regret that, because they love brindle or black and
tan Labradors, but if you are a serious breeder of Labrador Retrievers
you try to avoid breeding dogs with a coat defect. To be able to breed
Labradors with a coat defect, both the sire and the dam need to carry the
gene for this particular defect. So once I knew who the carriers were,
I stopped breeding them to each other.
. If you want to know if your Labrador carries brindle or tan point, you can have its DNA (K-locus) tested by VetGen, and probably by other firms as well.
